The Crystal Palace

The buffet at the Crystal Palace.

Like many Disney restaurants, the Crystal Palace  in the Magic Kingdom is both a buffet and a character dining experience (Winnie the Pooh and friends). The food is good and there’s a wide selection to choose from.  This is the place to be if your child (or you!) are a fan of Winnie the Pooh, Tigger, Eeyore or Piglet. Photos of the buffet are in the slide show below.

Allergy-friendly brownie. It came with a strawberry but I didn't take my camera out fast enough.

I have read reviews that mention peanut butter and jelly sandwiches at the Crystal Palace, but there were none being served when we were there.  Most of the buffet is safe for peanut allergies.  The only exception was the dessert pastries.  The chef sent out a special brownie as well as Enjoy Life cookies. The brownie was gluten-free and very  heavy.  It tasted good but it was hard to eat the entire brownie because it was so rich and heavy.

It is worth  repeating that if you are worried about cross-contamination at a buffet, you can ask the chef to make something special.

Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party

These butterscotch cookies were the allergy-friendly alternatives during Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party.

Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party is an evening event at the Magic Kingdom requiring a special ticket. It runs from 4 p.m. to midnight and if you don’t have a (rather pricey) ticket, you will be asked to leave the park at 7 p.m.  The party is held November through the first week of January. One of the perks is free hot chocolate and cookies. The allergy friendly cookie option is OMG.. It’s Gluten Free, which Jess, who is not used to gluten-free baked goods, found very good. They are very heavy and one cookie goes a long way.  There is some coconut in the cookie, but most people with nut allergies shouldn’t have a problem with coconut (consult your doctor). You will have to specifically ask for nut-free dessert option; they won’t be offered to you unless you ask.
