Updates on Disney

Posted in Buffet, Disney World, Food Allergy, Restaurants, Traveling tagged , , , at 11:26 am by 1ElleofaWoman

I haven’t posted in a while but would like to add some updates based on a recent trip and comment on some announcements made by Disney.

Allergy Friendly MenusPancakes and Mickey Waffles

You may have already heard that Disney announced new allergy friendly menus that will roll out in the coming months. Each menu will list the allergen content for each food item, making informed choices easier. In many cases, it will eliminate the need to speak to the chef, which can take a while when the parks are busy.

You can still request to speak to the chef if you feel the need. The menus reflect the most common allergens so if you are dealing with allergies to things other than gluten/wheat, milk, peanut, tree nut and fish, you may want to speak to the chef. You may also want to speak to the chef if you are worried about cross contamination at a buffet and want to request that the chef make something special.

Akershus Royal Banquet Hall at Epcot (Dining at Walt Disney World)

Breakfast is served family style at Akershus Royal Banquet Hall.

Akershus Royal Banquet Hall, part of the Norway Pavilion in Epcot’s World Showcase, is one of two places inWDW where your little princess can dine with Disney Princesses.  Each table gets one free picture with Belle, which is a nice perk. The princesses we saw that day were Belle, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty,  Ariel (Little Mermaid) and Cinderella.  Cinderella was a surprise for us because we thought she could only be seen in her castle. For those on the dining plan, the meal is only one sit-down meal credit. (Cinderella’s Royal Table in the Magic Kingdom is two.)

Breakfast is served family style and each table is served  eggs, bacon, sausage and a potato dish. Read the rest of this entry »

Posted in Disney World, Food Allergy, Traveling tagged , , , at 9:00 am by 1ElleofaWoman

The Epcot Food and Wine Festival is held each fall, from the end of September through the first week of November. This is not an event that requires an extra ticket. The World Showcase is filled with booths offering food and wine (and beer) for purchase.   You may hear about “sampling” foods, but be clear that there are no free samples; everything costs money.  Read the rest of this entry »

Chef Mickey’s Restaurant at Disney’s Contemporary Resort (Dining at Walt Disney World)

Posted in Buffet, Cross Contamination, Disney World, Food Allergy, Restaurants, Traveling tagged , , , , , , at 8:00 am by 1ElleofaWoman

Chef Mickey’s restaurant is located in Disney’s Contemporary Hotel, just a short monorail ride from the Magic Kingdom. At Chef Mickey’s, you will meet various Disney characters as you dine. We met Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Goofy and Pluto. They serve breakfast and dinner; both are buffets.

Chef Mickey and other characters meet and greet diners.

It is well worth noting that if you are worried about cross-contamination at a buffet, you can ask the chef to make something special. Read the rest of this entry »

Pop Century (Dining at Walt Disney World)

Mickey Waffles are available for breakfast all around Disney.

This year, prior to my family’s fourth annual trip to Walt Disney World, I got an idea from Dad. Not my dad, but Dad of Dad’s Guide to WDW. He asked for pictures of food/meals from Disney Parks so he could post them on his site. I thought that would be a good idea for my blog. Since I have already posted several times about Disney, I thought this year I would get more specific and give everyone a visual on what they can expect at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Fla. ****

Fruit is a snack option throughout Walt Disney World.

Fruit is a snack option throughout Walt Disney World.

Disney is the place where dreams come true and there are many reasons everyone likes Disney. Dad’s site has a lot of information about what makes Disney a magical vacation. What also makes it great for me and others dealing with food allergies is the relatively stress-free dining. The chefs are incredibly helpful and knowledgeable and they “get it.” The staff (aka cast members) around Disney World is very helpful as well. Read the rest of this entry »

Where Dreams Come True for Kids with Food Allergies

Posted in Buffet, Disney World, Food Allergy, Restaurants, Traveling tagged , , , , , , at 4:10 pm by 1ElleofaWoman

Walt Disney World is a magical place. The best thing about Disney? Stress-free dining.

I have found the chefs and staff at Disney to be very allergy aware.

My husband John, daughter Jessica (who is allergic to peanuts and other legumes) and I first visited Orlando  as a family in November 2008, Read the rest of this entry »
